Access Key guide

Semantic markup

"Alt text" has been applied to all img, while the layout has been devised to be intuitive for people with screen readers, while high contrast text has been used to help the visually impaired.

Articles on the site are written in plain English in order that people of all ages and abilities can easily read and understand the content.

This site uses fixed font sizes that are legible for most readers, with suitable contrast set to the background for legibility. Variable font sizes are no longer used, as current browsers use a zoom feature rather than text re-sizing.

Valid W3C & WAI markup

It is structured with valid 1.1 XHTML and semantic markup. Cascading style sheets are used for visual layout. Both are validated as by the W3C and Total Validator online accessibility accreditation services.

All pages are WCAG AAA approved, complying with all priority 1 and most of priority 2 and 3 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

We hope that this makes the site accessible to as many users as possible but we recognise the need to continue to improve.

This website conforms to Section 508 and to most of W3C's WCAG 1.0, level Triple-A. The code is valid XHTML 1.1 with valid CSS.
